We don't guess. When a dish comes from a page, we link to that page so
you can read it too.
The standard
A dish only gets listed if we found it written down. If we didn't keep the link
for a card's main dish, the card tells you that instead of quietly leaving it out.
One show is the exception: One Bite. It reviews a plain cheese slice every time,
so that is the dish we list for it, and its cards say so instead of pointing to a page
that names the dish.
We never take restaurants from "best of" roundups or from the sites that copy each
other. A list copied from a rival's list can only ever be as good as theirs.
A person decides when a place has closed. Software can spot that a place looks
closed, and we show that as "reported closed". Only a person can say it has closed, and
only once they've found proof.
Cards link to what we saw — the episode, a page about the restaurant, a news
story, or the creator's video page — so you can look at it yourself rather than taking
our word for it.
Counting…
The ones that didn't make it
We keep closed restaurants instead of deleting them. Each one keeps its page, with
the date it closed and a note where we have them. That
is a fact about restaurants, and it is the whole reason checking is worth doing.
Where it stops
No news is not proof. Not hearing about a closure does not mean a place is open.
Some states are checked more than others, so a state we've looked at less will
look healthier than it really is.
